BECOME THE SUCCESS YOU DESIRE

What I learned early in my formative years as well as my professional days working in corporate America is that there are many ways to reach your goals.  For me, it typically was not the most traveled route that got me to where I was headed.  I knew what I wanted to achieve, and I almost always took a much different path (& ultimately a shorter one for myself) than those before me.  These lessons not only shaped me but also are still with me today.

I came from broken family environment in a small rural village of upstate New York.  My uneducated parents divorced when I was 3 months old; I was placed into foster care two times before the age of 3; lived most of my impressionable years with a very strict & stern step-father when my mom re-married; survived their eventual separation & divorce; and lived a life of poverty with my single mother of 4 kids receiving social assistance to help us to get by.

I was the first to graduate in my family from high school (as the top male student of the class); go on to graduate from college achieving a bachelor’s degree and eventually earning a masters degree through night school; and rose the ranks of a fortune 100 company to become a world-wide marketing manager before venturing out on my own into the vast world of entrepreneurialism.

LIFESTYLE.  DREAMS.  DESIRES.  DESERVED.

I share this story as proof that the road less traveled is perhaps the other way to get to where you want to be.  It all started with a desire to want “more” than what I had or what my family had.  Those “mores” were the driving forces to keep me on a path and direction to success.  I knew that I had to make conscious choices and decisions to do things differently in order to get a different outcome.  Yes, I did experience many bumps and bruises along the way and there were times when I almost gave up, but knew that if I did I wouldn’t get to where I wanted to be.  I was not going to “settle”.

HONESTY, INTEGRITY, BELIEF  &  DETERMINATION

Fortunately, although coming from such dire circumstances early on in life, my mom instilled in me several principles that are an intrinsic part of my very being – HONESTY, INTEGRITY, BELIEF and DETERMINATION.  Be honest with yourself and others (there are no shortcuts and honesty is a friend to have on your side always!), have integrity in all that you do (“do unto others as you would have others do unto you”), believe in yourself and that you can accomplish anything (visualize yourself having those “mores” you are seeking), and be of a determined mind – don’t ever give up and keep on persisting, picking yourself up when you get knocked down, and altering your path as required to get to where you intend to go.  It is these guiding principles that I truly believe enable anyone to achieve their “mores” in life.

There is nothing magical about this – it just is who I am and everyone else can do the same thing!
